Red Devils Photos at the Carnival - Photo in Fort-de-France, Martinique

Red Devils photos

The highlight of the Carnival: Mardi Gras.

The Red Devils take over the streets, and indeed, all the population is invited to dress in red!

The Red Devils, these emblematic characters of the Martinican Carnival, are believed to originate from a distant African animist mythology.

Their heads are adorned with countless bovine horns, at the end of which small bells ring.

They are entirely covered with small mirrors which are supposed to represent spiritual wealth.

And the final touch: a mask most often representing a skull!
